Last year’s ASWMC Sealed Surface Rally Championship runner-up Darren Pool will contest this year’s Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship in his spectacular Vauxhall Corsa – in preparation for a full assault on the B13 title in 2019.
Pool, from Exmouth in Devon, built the Corsa four years ago. It’s powered by a potent 220bhp kit engine and runs with a Harry Hockly Motorsport gearbox and suspension.
Last season Pool scored a number of giant-killing results in the car, including many ASWMC top 10 finishes – the best being an incredible second overall on the Prima Motorsport Stages, beaten only by a Fiesta R5!
After the opening round of the 2018 Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship, the Melvyn Evans Motorsport Tour of Epynt (10-11 March), the Corsa will be fitted with a six-speed sequential gearbox in time for the Manx National (11-12 May).
“The aim for the season ahead will be to try and take class wins at national level and to achieve top 20 overall finishes,” says Pool. “It will be a learning year, followed by a full assault in 2019 on the B10 title.”
Pool will be co-driven by Chris Beer, the 2017 ASWMC Champion Co-driver, and is supported by Phoenix Windscreens, Eveleighs Garage and Partservice, with back up from Harry Hockly motorsport.
