Geoff Wright and Chris Sanderson will contest the full six round 2018 Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship in their stunning Fiesta S2000, and are looking forward to the challenge of competing on some new events and ones that they haven’t competed on for many years.
Geoff previously contested the Championship in the 1990s, with a best result of sixth overall and first in class in a 1600cc Vauxhall Nova in 1995. His last assault on the Championship was in a Group N Nissan Almera, winning the N3 class title in 2000. Since then, family and business commitments have limited rally appearances to mainly carefully chosen local events, although the North Yorkshire-based driver did rally at kit car specification Nissan Almera on the Isle of Man – winning the Class C Manx Rally Championship in 2015.
Following this success, Geoff moved to four-wheel drive in late 2016 with the purchase of a Ford Fiesta S2000. He spent last year competing in various test events to familiarise himself with the car and its capabilities on events locally and on the Isle of Man. Best results so far have been fourth overall and first in class on the Jack Frost Stages and first overall in the super rally on the Manx National.
“Now that we’ve both hit fifty, Chris and I are looking forward to the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship events and having fun with the new car,” says Geoff. “We would like to thank our service crew Andrew, Davie, Toby and Franco and our current sponsors for their continued support – FJ Booth Construction, Meiser UK Ltd, SMR Corporate Hospitality, IT Systems, Loe Bank Motors Ltd and EPF Graphics.”
