Paul and Julian Doroszczuk are looking forward to the Bet on Aces Manx National Rally (11/12 May) after an excellent run on the Melvyn Evans Motorsport Tour of Epynt in their immaculate Drockspeed Motorsport Escort Mk2.
The pair, who are celebrating 40 years of rallying together this year, were delighted to blow off the cobwebs from their enforced 18 month sabbatical (owing to Julian’s shoulder injury) with a confidence building 30th overall result, from a start number of 77. After a conscious effort to take things steady and play themselves back in, by SS3 the horns had reappeared and they were back in maximum attack mode, catching and passing several cars on each of the following stages. Perhaps more importantly Paul and Julian scored much needed early points in the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship by finishing 4th and 3rd respectively in the hotly contested B11 drivers/co-drivers class.
“Apart from some mechanical issues and slight body damage caused as a result of some over enthusiastic driving through the chicane on Four Ways Bridge, the car ran faultlessly,” said Julian. “It was a challenging day regarding tyre choice, with grip being hard to come by on the greasy initial stages, followed by what can best be described as a biblical downpour on stage seven to provide the sting in the tail.
“Alan and Craig were more than up to the challenge back in service, completing much needed repairs to the front suspension after our encounter with a rather large bale, alongside the routine tasks of tyres and fuel, and all-importantly within the time allocated.
“Paul and I had forgotten how much attention the car attracts from media and spectators alike. It was good to be told there were very many positive comments made regarding us in response to the live web-streaming coverage, in addition to seeing the spectators cheering on the car on the stages. I suppose there is nothing like the sound of 9,000 rpm of normally-aspirated Cosworth flying towards you! Roll in the Manx National in May.”
