Next month’s Bet On Aces Manx National Rally (11-12 May) will mark an anniversary Phil Turner is unlikely to forget – for it will be 20 years since he did the event in a Sunbeam and had to retire with gallstones!
The 54-year old Welshpool driver heads to the Round 2 of the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship in fine health and leading the two-litre class (and eighth in the overall drivers’ standings), having finished a magnificent 11th overall on the Melvyn Evans Motorsport Tour of Epynt in his rapid Escort Mk2. The aim on the Manx is to consolidate that excellent Championship position.
Turner will be co-driven by Ian Meakin, who is contesting the Manx National for a sixth time, having navigated twice for the famous rallying postman Brian Davies in the yellow Corolla and three times with Ian Kenvin in the orange Escort Mk1.
Support comes from Toovey Race Engines, ST Motorsport, JD Tyres and Rikki Lloyd Butchers.
