Daniel Harper has ignited his bid for the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship title by finishing second on the Bet On Aces Manx National Rally – and now he’s taking his John Cooper Works Mini WRC to the Rally van Wervik (June 9), where he’ll be aiming to repeat his podium finish performance.
Having missed the opening Melvyn Evans Motorsport Tour of Epynt due to illness, Harper was back on form on the Isle of Man. In what was effectively only his fourth event in the Minisport-run Mini WRC (having previously rallied a Mini Cooper S since 2009), Harper and co-driver Chris Campbell never put a foot wrong – driving as fast as the wet conditions allowed on day one and consolidating a strong second place with a controlled and calculated in the dry on day two. His first points-scoring result of the season puts him eighth in the Drivers’ standings, just three points shy of fifth position.
“The Mini WRC is very good – it’s design and built by Prodrive, one of the best teams there is in rallying, so it’s well sorted and very driveable,” said Harper. “We missed the opening round of the Championship because of illness, but we’re up and running now and looking forward to Belgium.”
