Richard Clews will be co-driven on this Saturday’s Carryduff Folklift Down Rally by Matt Edwards – who currently leads both the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship and Jordan Road Surfacing BTRDA Rally Series in the DRIVERS’ standings!
Clews’ usual co-driver, Hamish Campbell, was due to navigate in the ITG Subaru Impreza on Round 4 of the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship – but as a farmer, the current dry weather has altered his harvest commitments and he’ll be spending the weekend on his tractor instead!
Edwards is having a fantastic season behind the steering wheel, and won his fifth rally of 2018 on last weekend’s Nicky Grist Stages.
“Matt and I have been friends for about eight years and have been supporting each other with our rallying,” said Clews. “We have a good friendship and we work with each other regularly. I am extremely proud of what he’s been able to achieve with the right help and support, however, I’m not sure what we can expect this weekend as he’s not got a great name in rallying from sitting in the co-driver’s seat! One thing’s for sure, wherever we finish we are aiming to enjoy ourselves.
“I’m under no pressure, as having been unable to start Rally van Wervik in Belgian and a non-finish on Epynt we are a long way off a good overall championship result. All we can hope to do is set some good times and get some good publicity for Matt, myself and all the sponsors.”
