Steve Retchless will contest this Saturday’s Carryduff Folklift Down Rally in his “proper” stage rally prepared Escort Mk2.
The Northallerton driver damaged the car on the Bet On Aces Manx National, and had to use a road-rally spec Escort Mk2 on Rally van Wervik. A good run in Belgium has kept his class B13 title hopes alive, as he now heads to Round 4 of the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship just 12 points adrift of the class leader (Tim Waters) and with his stage rally car fully repaired and ready to go.
“So finally we’ve got the back car from bodyshop and they’ve made a fantastic job of the repairs, so every spare hour has gone into the re-assembly process,” said Steve. “Last Sunday we started up the engine, because we still weren’t sure if that had suffered internally because we had plenty of external damage which could be seen. Anyway, it started and ran nicely, so I was very much relieved. I managed to get a short notice slot with the exhaust man for repairs and made the decision which car was going to Ireland – and I’m pleased to say that it’s business as normal with the proper stage car!”
