Jasper’s black rocket set to return

Mark Jasper’s first appearance in the Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship might have had a few “niggling problems”, but the master baker from Stafford was a sight to behold in his black Ford Escort Mk2.

Jasper has returned to competition following a very big accident in Ireland in a Metro 6R4 five years ago, and is building his confidence and speed in a beautiful GEO Preparations-tuned car – which is powered by a Smith & Jones 2.5-litre engine.

Co-driven by Don Whyatt, Jasper scored second placed B13 class points on the Friday night of the Masterpixel Media Manx National Rally, although he was hampered by a number of issues. He started Saturday’s leg in the hope that the problems had been ironed out in service, but retired when they continued.

Jasper is unable to contest the next round Britain’s premier asphalt series, the Woodstoxx – Motul Rally van Wervick in Belgium on 15 June, but will contest all the other events – namely the Carryduff Forklift Down Rally (20 July), the Old Forge Garage Mewla Rally (25 August) and an event he knows well, the Ford Parts Cheviot Stages Rally (22 September).
