Kirkaldy aims for more giant-killing Protyre Asphalt overall results in 2020

Having won the final round of this year’s Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship, Alan Kirkaldy will be aiming for more sensational overall results next year in his Cairnsmill Caravan Park-backed Ford Fiesta R5.

The St Andrews driver clinched the R5 title after a magnificent season, but his most stunning performance came on Otterburn when he won the Ford Parts Cheviot Stages Rally outright.

That result also secured him fourth place in the overall drivers’ standings, while his navigator Cameron Fair finished runner-up in the overall co-drivers’ table.

“My plan for 2020 is to try and secure a budget to do full Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship,” says Alan.

“If I can do the full Championship again, I am going to leave the car with the larger restrictor and see how we fare overall rather than in the class. I really enjoyed learning the venues, the car and the notes in a full year in 2019, and I’m really looking forward to next season.”
