Reigning Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship class B10 champion Rhidian Daniels is building an Escort Mk2 in preparation for the exciting new Ford Escort Challenge category.
The rapid Nantgaredig driver has sold his Citroën C1 Max in which he and co-driver Tomas Whittle finished runner-up in B10 in 2018 and won the title in last year, and is currently building a stage rally Escort.
Rhidian is of course no stranger to rear-wheel drive, having won the Semi-Experts/Novices class, finishing 25th overall, in an Escort on last year’s Cilwendeg Road Rally.
“2020 is going to be a strange year, with it starting by unfortunately having to say goodbye to the fantastic C1 Max,” says Rhidian. “Sad times, but it has gone to a fantastic new owner and I hope he has a very good time with it like we did.”
“That said, it did open up some funds to make some big steps forward with the current modern Escort Mk2 we have in build. It’s coming along nicely and with us managing to get most the major components sourced this early on in the year hopefully we will see it ready roughly around the mid to late season point. We can then compete on some of the last rounds of this year’s Asphalt Rally Championship, to get ourselves settled in ready for a full assault on the Championship the following year.”
Rhidian’s rallying is sponsored by JJ Aggregates Ltd, West Wales Rally Spares, Rick’s Bodyshop and ISJ Engineering Ltd.
