Doroszczuk’s lockdown rebuild readies them for Protyre Asphalt assault

Paul and Julian Doroszczuk are all set for the start of the 2021 Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship, having stripped and completely rebuilt their Drockspeed Motorsport Ford Escort Mk2 during lockdown.

The normally-aspirated Cosworth engined car will appear on The Old Forge Garage Mewla Rally (Sunday 29 August) with an upgraded brakes system, while the half-shafts have been replaced with the very latest spec available.

“There is not a single nut, bolt and washer that has not be replaced or upgraded in preparation for the impending return to the stages,” says Julian.

The 2018 class B11 champions have also rebuilt their service van!

Ross Cree is returning to their service crew. He last serviced for the Doroszczuk brothers several years ago, before leaving to set up his own very successful garage business. Ross brings a real depth of experience with him, having worked in the past M-Sport, helping to build and servicing Colin McRae’s Ford Focus RS in the WRC.

“The introduction of the Mewla Rally into the 2021 Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship holds no concerns, despite the very interesting fact that there will be no recce of the stages allowed due to an army exercise the same weekend as the rally,” adds Julian.

“The Mewla is our ‘local’ round, and having competed successfully on the infamous army ranges for many years our pacenotes and knowledge are second to none.

“This is totally contrary to the Hills Ford Three Shires Stages Rally [Round 2 on Sunday 5 September], which only ran for the very first time in 2019 and is a rally Paul and I have never done before.

“The saving grace is that unlike the Mewla there is a recce the day before the rally where Paul and I can use all our extensive experience of pace note rallying over many years together to ensure our pacenotes will allow us to be on the pace from the very start.”
