Olly Hunter aims to finish Protyre Asphalt season in style on the Cheviot

Olly Hunter is aiming to finish the 2021 Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship in style when he contests the Ford Parts Cheviot Stages Rally (Sunday 24 October) for the first time in his Vauxhall-engined Ford Escort Mk2.

On only his fourth ever rally, Olly won the Mintex Award for the best improvement on seeding on the Old Forge Garage Mewla Rally.

He had an eventful time on the PokerStars, going off on both Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

He was particularly unlucky on Leg 2, as he felt something snap just before spinning into a bank on SS8. He finished the loop but retired the car in service after SS10 with bent steering and front end panel damaged.

Olly is co-driven by Jonathon Kennedy, who is also new to multi-venue closed road stage rallying.

“I’ve never been to Otterburn, so I’m looking forward to the Cheviot,” says Olly.

“It will be a case of studying the DVDs, doing a good recce over the ranges and then see how we get on.”
