Mike Pugsley aims for early Protyre Asphalt points on Epynt in his wonderful 1974 Ford Escort Mk1 RS2000

Double Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship class B12 champion Mike Pugsley is returning to the series this year in his wonderful self-prepared 1974 Ford Escort Mk1 RS2000.

As a shakedown to the opening round of the series, the Nigel Ferguson Fabricators Tour of Epynt on Saturday 16 April, Mike will contest this weekend’s Tour of Caerwent.

He’ll be partnered at Caerwent by Tom Wood, as Mike’s regular co-driver Marc Clatworthy is contesting Rally North Wales in Dyfi and Pantperthog forests, navigating for Ron Morgan (Escort Mk2 RS1800).

Mike and Marc will then be reunited on Epynt on Easter Bank Holiday Saturday for their first crack at 2022 Protyre Asphalt points, with Kevin Jones in charge of service arrangements as usual.

“When we saw the Protyre Asphalt Rally Championship format had been restored and the amended calendar, we decided to do our best to support the Championship and try and do as many rounds as possible,” says Mike.

“It not about tin pots for me, I genuinely just enjoy completing and the original class system, which has been restored, gave me a chance of winning a pair of tyres now again!

“We have an entry in for the Tour of Epynt and we will see where we go from there.”
