Record-breaking Geoff Glover gears up for 110th Protyre Asphalt rally start – in the same car!

The Nigel Ferguson Fabricators Tour of Epynt on Saturday 16 April will be Geoff Glover’s 110th Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship event start – and every single one has been in the same self-built and unique rear-wheel drive Vauxhall Astra Mk3!

The Port Talbot MC organised event will also be Geoff’s 21st entry on the Tour of Epynt and his 39th event on the Epynt ranges.

He built the car from a standard front-wheel drive shell in 1997 and since then Geoff has spent thousands of hours in the garage preparing and improving the car.

Last season he made changes to the fuel injection system and over the winter the car has undergone a comprehensive rebuild.

Despite competing against more powerful Escort Mk2s, Geoff always challenges for event class wins and has finished in the top three in class B11 at the end of every Asphalt Championship season since 2015.

He also finished a remarkable ninth in the overall drivers’ standings at the end of the 2018 Protyre Asphalt Rally Championship!

From the first round in 1998 until the end of 2009 Charlie Turner endured the highs and lows of 63 rounds of the Asphalt Championship in the co-driver’s seat, before Bob Brown, a fellow member of Whitby & DMC, stepped in.

Keith Barker has been co-driving for Geoff since 2012 and they are about to embark on their 11th season together.

Keith’s brother Bob and Geoff’s friend Alistair are the loyal service team members.
