Endaf Makepeace marched to Class 7 podium finish on closed stage rally debut

Endaf Makepeace marched to a very impressive Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship Class 7 podium finish on the East Riding Stages Rally – which was the DP Building Supplies Escort Mk2 driver’s first ever closed road stage rally.

The talented 31-year old from Llanboidy in west Wales has only contested six rallies before this year. He made his competition debut in December 2023, but a blown engine put paid to his 2024 season.

Endaf built his Escort Mk2 himself – from a bare shell up, even painting it himself.

He contested six events in 2025 – mostly single venues, although it was the Mewla Rally on Epynt that opened his eyes to the challenge of bigger events, and ultimately a shot at the 2026 Protyre Asphalt Rally Championship. Which started incredibly well on his first visit to East Yorkshire.

“The East Riding Stages – where do I begin?”, says Endaf.

“What an event! It was a massive experience for me, being my first ever closed road rally.

“I took good advice from my experienced navigator Robert Wheeler for the Saturday night stages, when he said, ‘ease yourself in, just get ‘round and don’t do anything silly’. And I stuck to his words – mostly! Stage three was a bit frustrating when a car in front wouldn’t pull over for us to pass and it cost us time, but overall the night went pretty well.

“Sunday – in a word, amazing!

“Great stages and very slippery conditions, which saw us stick to the wets all day.

“The Manx National Rally is our next event and I’m looking forward to it already!”

Endaf is supported by DP Building Supplies, Pren da Saer Coed, Power Steering Solutions, Martin Owen Building Contractor, Richard Sharp Carpentry, Iwan Evans Saer Coed and ORW Building.
