Round 1
Legend Fires North West Stages – 20/21 March
The Legend Fires North West Stages is run by Motorsport (North West) Limited and in 2019 was the second car rally in England to take advantage of the Road Traffic Act updated legislation. This became law in 2017 and allows Councils to close public roads for motor sport events. The legislation took many years to achieve and the interest across motorsport enthusiasts was significant.
The 2019 event attracted top drivers and cars from all over the country and following its huge success it is expected that entries for the 2020 event will be hotly contested and will again attract top crews. This year’s event also saw huge interest from spectators with thousands of rally enthusiasts and locals enjoying the exciting spectacle. Once again, we expect the 2020 event to draw a large number of spectators to the area.
The rally’s organisers represent some of the best Motor Clubs in the region and all are well versed in the art of providing tough and demanding rallies, whilst still allowing competitors and spectators a full day’s enjoyment. The aim is to offer a real challenge to the competitor and an action-packed day for spectators and in the process raise a significant amount of money for charity. In 2019 the event was able to donate £11,500 to various charities with the vast majority of that money going to local organisations. The main benefactors for 2020 will be announced in due course.
The 2019 rally was run with the full support and agreement of Wyre Council, Garstang Council, Lancashire Highways, the emergency services and the governing body for four-wheel motorsport in the UK, ‘Motorsport UK’. The rally will return to Myerscough College as its headquarters and is planned to offer 14 stages, all of which are on closed public roads. More detail will be released as and when venues are confirmed.
