Success in Scotland!
The third round of the MSA REIS National Asphalt Championship; the Jim Clark Rally runs over 2 days between Duns and Kelso in Scotland. Simon and Brian opted to miss the Manx National Rally as the championship only allows competitors to only compete in 8 out of the 9 rounds. Having dropped the last round it meant a break in their rallying calendar. But they certainly didn’t lose their competitive edge!
The Duns town centre stage on Friday night saw hundreds of spectators cheering their support. After an unusually sunny day, the roads were dry and allowed Simon and Brian to make an early impression on the leader board. The crew finished 5th O/A at the end of the first day.
Saturday morning stages started in Kelso town square, unfortunately after a night of rain, giving the world rally machinery ahead an advantage. Nevertheless, Simon and Brian put in a faultless performance, and throughout the day climbed their way up the leader board, finishing on the podium behind WRC Focus driver, Euan Thorburn and Paul Beaton and Steve Simpson & Patrick Walsh in their Subaru Impreza world rally car.
Simon and Brian won their class and had overall 2 wheel drive victory. The crew also won the Millington Escort Challenge, they were the only Escort in the top 10, the next Escort crew being 4 minutes behind them on the leader board!
The event will be shown on Motors TV.
