Ton up for Glover on Epynt

The opening round of this year’s Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship, the Rallynuts National Tour of Epynt on 10 March, will be a very special event for Geoff Glover, as it will be his 100th rally in his rapid RWD Astra.

Geoff has supported the Asphalt Championship pretty much since its inception – the only hiatus being the foot-and-mouth outbreak in 2001 and the series’ sabbatical in 2017.

He built the car from a standard front-wheel drive shell in his garage with the help of his dad Ron – sadly no longer with us. That was back in the late 1990s. Since then he has spent thousands of hours in the garage generally fettling and improving the car in between every event.

Ask anybody connected with the Championship and they will tell you the same thing. The car appears on every event looking like it’s just come out of the showroom – outside, inside, underneath and under the bonnet. In fact, event scrutineers often think that it’s a new-build and question why it has one of the old style Log Books. The obvious benefit is that DNFs due to ‘mechanicals’ are few and far between!

Co-driven by Keith Barker, Geoff will be competing for Class B11 honours again this year – a category he finished a very close second in last year, after some great battles with Escort Mk2s.
