Devlin to decide on Mewla outing

John Devlin has scored maximum Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship class B11 points on all three rounds of the series that he has contested, and whilst class-leading co-driver Ashley Trimble – who navigated for him on the Masterpixel Media Manx National Rally – is talking to him about doing the next round on Epynt, we’ll have to wait and see if the Banbridge driver can contest the Old Forge Garage Mewla Rally (25 August).

Devlin is 14 points ahead of Geoff Glover (RWD Astra) in the highly-competitive B11 class and ninth in the overall drivers’ points standings, after an incredible performance on the Carryduff Forklift Down Rally.

Co-driven in Northern Ireland by his usual navigator John McCarthy, Devlin picked up third overall Asphalt Championship place points on his local round of the series and was the top placed two-wheel drive registered contender in his Escort Mk2.

From a start number of 38, Devlin finished 13th overall – bestowing him the Asphalt Championship’s on-event Mintex Award for the best improvement on seeding; the prize for which is an axle set of Mintex brake pads to suit the calliper used on the winning car.

“I’m planning to do the Ulster Rally next month, because once again it’s my home rally, but I have spoken to Ashley [Trimble] about coming over and doing the Mewla. We’ll just have to wait and see,” said Devlin. “The last event on Otterburn I can’t do, because I’m getting married the next day!
