Double Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Champion Jason Pritchard says that he is impressed with the refreshed 2020 calendar, complimenting the ‘proactive’ series on introducing new events in different parts of the UK and not resting on its laurels.
Co-driven by Phil Clarke, Jason successfully defended his 2018 title this year, scoring back-to-back Championship wins after a very closely fought battle in his North Road Garage Ford Focus WRC05.
Britain’s premier asphalt series will next year contain seven rallies, with eight points-scoring events (the Manx National Rally retained, by popular competitor demand, as a double-points scoring round) and the best six scores to count. Three rallies from this year’s calendar have been retained, four new events have been introduced, and there will be five rallies held on 100% closed public roads and two rallies on military ranges, namely Epynt and Otterburn.
“I’d like to thank Jane [Evans, Championship Co-ordinator] and the team for all their hard work putting together the 2020 calendar,” says Jason. “It’s nice to have new challenges and visit different events in different parts of the UK. So often championships become stale with the same old thing every year, so it’s pleasing to see. The Protyre Asphalt Rally Championship is proactive and not wanting to sit back and have the same calendar year-on-year.
“With the new laws in place, it’s great to see most events will be on closed roads and taking advantage of this new legislation. I think with the Isle of Man again counting as two points-scoring rounds, this will encourage competitors to compete over there, taking into account the expense of traveling there and accommodation. If you do have an issue on the Friday, then you can go out on the Saturday and it’s not been a wasted trip.
“As a competitor I’d also like to thank Protyre for all its help over the past two years, and I’m pleased to see it will be continuing to support the Championship in 2020.”
