Black leads after tricky Argyll opening leg

Callum Black/Jack Morton lead the Dunoon presents Argyll Rally after a night where wet weather made conditions extremely tricky on the event’s opening six stages.

The Pallas Connections Ford Fiesta Rally2 crew finished Leg 1 last night 11 seconds ahead of David Wright/Paula Swinscoe (Fix Auto/Grove Hill Garage Ford Fiesta R5), while Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship leaders Neil Roskell/Andrew Roughead are third, a further 15 seconds behind in their ND Civils/Burdens/Witham Motorsport Ford Fiesta Rally2.

Completing a Ford top four are David Henderson/Chris Lees, who are 10 seconds behind Roskell in their Keco/PAR Petroleum-backed Fiesta Rally2.

Brad Cole/Neil Colman are the top two-wheel drive crew in their Hydroline Solutions 2.5-litre Escort Mk2. They are 9 seconds ahead of Darren Atkinson/Mark Twiname (Haldane Fisher Escort Mk2).

Unfortunately, John Stone/Laura Connell had a very big accident in their Legend Fires Volkswagen Polo GTI R5. They were taken to hospital for precautionary checks and released with bumps and bruises.

Hugh Brunton/Drew Sturrock also had a dramatic end to their event, rolling their PM Print Škoda Fabia Rally2.

Leg 2 takes place today (Saturday 24 June) with a 19.81 mile loop of four stages (Glendaruel, Bealach Maim, Loch Fyne and Whistlefield) on the picturesque Cowal Peninsula, tackled twice.

Special Stage TV will be live streaming the action from the event on its Facebook page, with commentary Mark James and special guest Phil Sandham.
