Carrot cruncher Cole aims for Protyre Asphalt class B13 glory

Having twice just missed out on class B13 title honours, ‘carrot cruncher’ Brad Cole will be aiming to win that and the Escort Challenge title in this year’s Motorsport UK Protyre Asphalt Rally Championship.

Cole finished a close second in class in 2022, taking two wins, two seconds and a third in his 2.5-litre Smith & Jones engined Hydroline Solutions-backed Escort Mk2.

He and co-driver Jamie Vaughan were quick last season too, but despite three podium finishes a few retirements saw them slip to fourth.

Cole considers it a case of unfinished business for him in the Protyre Asphalt Championship, as he prepares for the opening round of the series – the Legend Fires North West Stages (22/23 March) –  in his smart Trick Motorsport-prepared Ford.

“We’re getting there now as a team and the confidence is high for the coming year,” Cole told Motorsport News

“We can be pleased with the pace we will carry into 2024.

“We do all right for a bunch of carrot crunchers from Somerset!

“The Protyre is a fantastic championship to be a part of and we’ve enjoyed every rally.

“We have unfinished business and I’m pleased that we’re back in the championship.

“We can’t wait to get started.”
