The stars of the 2023 Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship celebrated their successes in style at the annual Gala Prizegiving and Awards ceremony on Saturday night – which took place at the Drayton Manor Hotel in Tamworth, Staffordshire.
A very large turnout of competitors, event organisers, sponsors, officials and VIP guests enjoyed a great evening, hosted by TV presenter Paul Woodford.
All the class categories were featured, with the top three receiving wonderful glass trophies.
The biggest cheer of the night was reserved for the overall champions, Callum Black and Jack Morton (Pallas Connections Ford Fiesta Rally2) who received their driver and co-driver trophies and prestigious BTRDA Gold Stars.
Mike Broad was presented with the Tony Davies Memorial Award, which is given to an individual who has done something special in relation to the Protyre Asphalt Rally Championship.
An unsung hero of British rallying, Mike is not just the President of the BTRDA and a former British Rally Championship winning co-driver – but he is, and has always been, an open encyclopaedia for event organisers and competitors who have for decades sought his invaluable advice. Mike’s unique match of enthusiasm, passion, energy, knowledge and experience has helped a truly enormous number of rally organisations and individuals, and he remains instrumental in the continued growth and development of the Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship.
“It was a truly fantastic Gala Prizegiving and Awards ceremony, with a huge turnout and party atmosphere highlighting the wonderful camaraderie that exists within the Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship,” says Paul Morris, Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship Co-ordinator.
“It was heart-warming to see so many award winners present, and I would personally like to congratulate them all on their success.
“It was an honour to present Mike Broad with the Tony Davies Memorial Award for all the hard work he does to help grow and develop the Protyre Asphalt Rally Championship. Often a man presenting an award, it was about time that his extraordinary contribution to the championship was recognised. The standing ovation he received was richly deserved.”
The 2024 Gala Prizegiving and Awards ceremony will take place at Drayton Manor Hotel on Saturday 9 November, 2024.
