Chris West brings Peugeot 306 Maxi power to the Protyre Asphalt Championship

After a three-year sabbatical from rallying, Chris West is returning this year to contest the Motorsport UK Protyre Asphalt Rally Championship in his rapid Peugeot 306 Maxi.

Co-driven by Keith Hounslow, the Buckinghamshire driver is not only aiming to be one of the fastest two-wheel drive competitors, but when conditions are favourable he hopes to take the fight to the top four-wheel drive cars as well.

The Maxi kit car was originally built by his father Dave in 2010 and now runs with a 2.5-litre KGP engine.

Chris took the car over a decade ago and has won around 15 rallies in it, including his comeback rally at Goodwood last December.

“The car has been sat on the ramp for three years since Covid and we’ve had another baby as well,” Chris told Motorsport News

“I plan to do all of the Protyre Asphalt Championship, starting on the Legend Fires North West Stages.

“It’s a hard thing to drive, but it’s got great grip at high speed.”

Chris finished third in the Peugeot on the recent Snetterton Stages and whilst he has limited closed road rallying experience, his long list of rally wins includes the 2019 Jersey Rally.
