Callum Black/Jack Morton head into Saturday’s second and final leg of the Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally leading the event, after a masterful performance on Friday night in their Pallas Connections Fiesta Rally2.
The defending Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally champions looked after their wet Michelin tyres on the dry opening two short stages around the village on Dunoon before setting fastest time on each of the remaining wet and dark five stages to go into the overnight halt 41 seconds ahead of second-placed Neil Roskell/Dai Roberts in their ND Civils/Burdens/Witham Motorsport Fiesta Rally2.
Hugh Brunton/Drew Sturrock led after SS2 in their Škoda Fabia Rally2 and finished the leg in a strong third Protyre Asphalt position, while William Hill celebrated his birthday with a very impressive run to fourth in his Hills Ford Fiesta Rally3, despite him and co-driver Richard Crozier suffering a few flat-shift issues with the car.
Top 2WD driver is class B13 and the Escort Challenge leader Darren Atkinson. He admitted to a big moment on Friday night but hopes to continue his good run to give co-driver Phil Sandham a special Scottish rally birthday treat in their Haldane Fisher Escort Mk2.
They’ll have to be on top form, however, as Gordon Morrison/Ian Parker are only 9 seconds behind in their Lochwinnoch Motors Heavy Haulage Escort Mk2.
Mark Kelly/Will Atkins were second when they failed to complete Friday night’s final stage in their Kelmore Škoda Fabia R5, while Hugh Hunter/Rob Fagg were fifth when they also disappeared on SS7 in their Robert Hunter & Son Tarmac/Lewis & Hunter Contracting Fiesta Rally2.
Roger and Tommi Henderson got their DKMS We Delete Blood Cancer Fiesta Rally2 stuck in a ditch on SS4, while Sam TouzelAaron Nicolle retired their Smart Scaffolding/Express Auto Parts Fiesta Rally2 on SS6.
Simon Hunter/Howard Pridmore won the Dynamic Fluids Best Presented Car Award for their immaculately turned out Kwiktrak Vauxhall Corsa S1400.
And with Simon Bowen/Craig Simkiss (Fiesta S2000T) a non-starter, there could be new leaders of the Protyre Asphalt Rally Championship tonight!
The Argyll Rally continues today (Saturday) with 11 stages totalling 46.27 stages miles – with the action streamed live and free-to-view on the Special Stage TV Facebook and YouTube channels.
