Escort champion Michael Harbour makes Fiesta R5 debut on Proflex Manx Rally

Michael Harbour, one of the most successful class B11 Ford Escort drivers in recent years, will make his debut in a new Fiesta R5 on this weekend’s Proflex Manx Rally.

The flying Scotsman became Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship class B11 champion in 2023 after scoring four class wins, a second and a third. He also finished 14th in the main standings, after twice picking up 11th-placed overall driver points.

Michael followed that up by finishing runner-up in class B11 last year, after one win, two seconds and three thirds.

Co-driven by Cameron Dunn, the Aye ace didn’t have time to test the car before the start of the Manx later today but is nevertheless looking forward to the baptism of fire.

“It’s a big step from an Escort Mk2 to a Fiesta R5, so we’ll have to see how we get on with it,” says Michael.

“The plan for the Manx is just to go out and enjoy it and try to get to the finish.

“The car has come from Southern Ireland, and it’s only done twenty-three rallies from new.

“We stripped it down to a bare shell – we do everything ourselves, so it was the best way to get to know it inside and out.

“We still have the Escort. It’s had an engine rebuild and we’re wondering what to do with it.”
