Jonathan Jones will contest the Borders Competitions Jim Clark Rally (23/24 May) for the first time after an impressive maiden outing on pace notes on the opening round of the Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship.
Cardigan’s quickest carpenter was hampered in the early stages of the East Riding Stages with intercom problems, but he and co-driver Ben Duke raced on to win Class F in their Jones Carpentry & Tiling/Ffostrasol Garage Vauxhall Corsa S1600.
Jonathan started his motorsport career in autograss racing at the age of 12 and has only been rallying for two years.
He skipped the Proflex Manx Rally but instead got in some valuable stage miles on the Kath Curzon Memorial Rally at Pembrey Circuit – winning his class and finishing an impressive 14th overall (just one second behind a Subaru Impreza and Darrian GTR+).
“I’m looking forward to the Jim Clark, as it will be my first rally in Scotland and I’m half Scottish,” says Jonathan.
“The East Riding was my first time on pace notes. That went pretty well and I enjoyed it, so we thought we’d try a longer closed road stage event next and see how it goes.”
