Three-time Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally champion Jason Pritchard leads this year’s BTRDA series by one point after taking home third-place points on his first ‘eventful’ appearance on the Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally.
Co-driven by Phil Clarke, the 37-year old Builth Wells ace was able to increase his speed on day two after making some set-up changes to his North Road Garage/Guttercrest Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, and missed out on second-place points thanks in part to a 100mph off towards the end of the event.
Only 10 seconds separated him from second-place Protyre Asphalt crew Hugh Brunton/Richard Wardle (Volkswagen Polo GTI R5) at the finish.
But as it is, Jason’s lead is just one point over Sam Touzel – with everything to play for.
“It was an eventful run on my first Argyll Rally,” said Jason.
“The plan was to build the speed as we gathered experience on these very challenging roads, which we did – and we also gathered some valuable championship points.
“We made some set-up changes overnight which gave me a better feeling with the car.
“On one of the Saturday stages we caught a slower car early in the stage which unfortunately didn’t see us behind them until the end and we couldn’t get our lost time corrected.
“The on stage 14 we had a high-speed excursion into a field, luckily getting away with only cosmetic damage.
“After a few end of stage repairs we were able to finish the event just ten seconds off the podium in fourth and third in the Protyre Asphalt standings.”
