Defending Protyre Asphalt champions Sam Touzel/Max Freeman have made a surprise switch from a Ford Fiesta Rally2 to a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, which they’ll debut on Round 3 of the BTRDA sealed surface series, the Borders Competitions Jim Clark Rally (22/23 May).
The new Škoda is also a limited edition version that celebrates 125 years of Škoda Motorsport, and is equipped with specials features including rear polycarbonate windows, six magnesium OZ rims in special colours, light engine wiring, an updated central panel, a Unique Dark Chrome logo on the bonnet, an interior plaque and a cloth car cover bearing the ‘125 Years Škoda Motorsport’ logo.
Sam will undoubtedly be super quick in the car, leaving only one unanswered question. Will the Škoda appear on the Jim Clark in the driver’s legendary pink livery?
Sam’s move to a Škoda means that someone new will win the sensational prize of a test in a Ford Puma Rally1, which will take place at the M-Sport Evaluation Centre test track at the end of the year.
The prize goes to the top-placed Ford Fiesta Rally2 driver at the end of the season, ruling last year’s winner out.
The previous two winners have been Sam and Callum Black and, as it stands at the moment, Ian Forgan, David Wright, Aled Wyn Morgans, Brad Cole, Ryan Burns and Stephen Simpson are some of the frontrunners in line for that magnificent end of year reward!
“Every high and low of my Rally2 career so far has been experienced behind the wheel of a Fiesta,” says Sam.
“It’s been an incredible car, one that will always hold a special place in my heart.
“As we say goodbye to our trusted Ford, we’re getting ready for an exciting new chapter.
“And here she is – Škoda Motorsport chassis number 255!
“Big thanks to C&M Motorsport Sales for the sale and RML Motorsport for the prep work, she looks great!”
Sam is supported by Smart Scaffolding, Trade Centre UK, Michelin, Germbusters, DFDS Jersey, LP Mobile Vehicle Repairs, CC Fixings, AAL Recycling , Ace Engineering, BLD Limited and PB Engineering.
