Nathan Evans will begin his 2022 Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship campaign on the Dunoon presents Argyll Rally (24/25 June) – and as the owner of The Kitchen Installers Limited based in North Wales, he’s going to throw everything, including the kitchen sink, into his campaign!
Work commitments was the reason why Nathan had to miss the opening two rounds of the series, but with five best scores from seven rounds to count, he could still be a top contender for the class B11 title.
Nathan is returning to the series in his rapid Evans Motorsport Renault Clio 2 Cup car – the same car in which the Wrexham driver finished third in class on last year’s Mewla Rally.
It’s an ex-Renault Sport race car which has been converted into right-hand drive and rally spec, featuring a six-speed SADEV sequential gearbox, Öhlins dampers and Jenvey throttle bodies with a carbon 306 Maxi-style airbox.
“I bought the Renault during lockdown in 2020 and stripped it to a bare shell and fully rebuilt the car with my brother Josh and father David,” said Nathan.
“I’m only running a standard two-litre Clio engine, but with a few tweaks it’s now running at just over 200bhp. I’m currently having an engine built which will hopefully be in the car for the 3 Shires Rally with a good 60bhp more.
“I’m doing Argyll. I went there last year and really enjoyed the event as a whole and the adventure up to Scotland.
“The rally last year didn’t go amazingly well. I managed second in class but on the Friday night stages I crashed into someone’s front garden, damaging two wheels, a wishbone and the rear beam. With a late night in service, we got it repaired and ready for the Saturday morning.
“Hopefully this year I’ll try to do all the remaining rounds of the Protyre Asphalt series. I’m looking forward to all of the events, especially the trip over to Ireland for the Down Rally.”
Rhys Edwards will navigate, and sponsorship comes from Tuned UK (suspension set-up specialists) P&B Tyres and The Kitchen Installers Limited.
