Luke Constantine will attempt to emulate his father by winning a class title in the Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship, when he contests the series for the first time this year in a Constantine Motorsport Opel Adam R2.
Luke’s father Mark and co-driving uncle Andrew won the Protyre Asphalt class B9 title in 2023 – and the 21-year old is aiming to bring another major rally trophy back to his North Yorkshire home, having previously had great success in rallycross.
Luke started his motorsport career aged four riding trials ‘bikes, before moving into rallycross at 14. He soon became Motorsport UK British Junior Rallycross champion and won the BTRDA RallyX Gold Star title twice (and was the youngest ever champion).
The Richmond youngster kept up that winning record when he moved into rallying, winning the MG3 Rally Challenge title in 2024.
This year Luke will contest the full Protyre Asphalt Championship in an Adam R2.
He made his debut in the Opel on the recent Brands Hatch Winter Stages, winning his class and finishing 18th overall.
The East Riding Stages (23 February) will be his maiden closed road stage event, and guiding him down the lanes will be co-driver Ifan Devine.
Before then, Luke will contest the Riponian Stages (with Rob Fagg co-driving) – which will be the first of two gravel rallies he’ll contest (the other being the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire).
“It’s going to be a busy year, as I plan to do all the rounds of the Protyre Asphalt Championship, plus my two local forestry events and the Tour of Mull,” said Luke.
“I’ve never done a closed road stage event before, so I’m really looking forward to the East Riding Stages.
“I enjoyed rallycross and that leapfrogged me into rallying. I had a good season last year in the MG3 Rally Challenge, but that’s a single-make series and driving the Opel Adam R2 in the Protyre series is quite a lot of steps up the ladder.
“I certainly enjoyed driving the car for the first time at Brands Hatch. I’ve been watching some onboard videos of Chris Ingram when he drove an Adam R2 in the ERC a few years ago and that’s given me a lot of inspiration to learn the car and drive it as fast as I can!”
Luke is sponsored by Constantine Building Services, Flintec Engineering Services, Victoria Garage Richmond, Royal Purple, Advanced Lubricant Solutions and Teng Tools.
