The Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship will be well represented on the Ynyscynon MOT Centre Tour of Epynt (25-26 July), with a strong entry of championship contenders already confirmed for Round 5.
BTRDA championship leader Aled Wyn Morgans and co-driver Jack Bowen (Aberystwyth Motorsport Ford Fiesta Rally2) will be aiming to extend their advantage on only the Welsh driver’s third competitive appearance on the famous Mynydd Epynt military range.
Brad Cole, who is challenging Aled for the M-Sport Puma Rally1 test drive as well as the overall Protyre Asphalt title, returns to Epynt in his Hydroline Solutions Fiesta Rally2.
Defending champions Sam Touzel/Max Freeman take their Michelin-shod Smart Scaffolding/Trade Centre UK Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 to Epynt for the first time, while three time champions Jason Pritchard/Phil Clarke go there off the back of a maximum points run on the Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally in their North Road Garage/Guttercrest Toyota GR Yaris Rally2.
Having already used two of his dropped scores, Ian Forgan will be targeting a big points score in his Mercury Motorsport Fiesta Rally2, while an equally on-form John Stone/Rhys Stoneman will be aiming to bounce back from a rare DNF in Argyll in their Legend Performance Engineering/Legend Fires Volkswagen Polo GTI R5.
Lee Edwards/Sam Spencer will be battling for giant-killing overall results and 2WD honours in their Blakemore’s Autos/ Evans Construction Ford Escort G3 against the likes of Huw James/Lewis Sim who had a sensational run last time out in their A&D Tyres/Maxxis Fiat 131 Sport.
Darrian has always enjoyed a close association with Epynt, and carrying the Lampeter manufacturer’s hopes will be Chris Simmons/Frazer Moss in their SRT Motorsport-run T90 GTR.
Also on the entry list is six time Protyre Asphalt champion Damian Cole (Get Connected Citroën C3 Rally2) and double champion Callum Black (586 Sport-prepared Pallas Connections Fiesta Rally2).
The classes are extremely well represented too, with the likes of Nathan Evans/Rhys Edwards (911 Sport/JD Tyres/The Kitchen Installers Renault Clio 3 RS), Andy Brinkley/Helena Mayall (M-Tech Motorsport/AB Bodyworks BMW E38 M3), Endaf Makepeace/Robert Wheeler (DP Building Supplies Escort Mk2) and double Protyre Asphalt class champions Mike Pugsley/Marc Clatworthy in their fabulous 1974 Ford Escort Mk1 RS2000.
Organised by Port Talbot Motor Club, the two-day Ynyscynon MOT Centre Tour of Epynt will start in Llandovery on Saturday (25 July) afternoon and have four stages totalling around 30 miles in the afternoon/early evening.
Sunday (26 July) features a further four stages totalling over 40 competitive miles.
