Hills Ford Stages good for business, says local ace Gareth ‘Gaz’ Price

Shrewsbury rally driver Gareth ‘Gaz’ Price says that the upcoming Hills Ford Stages is really good news for the local businesses that help him with his rallying programme.

Gaz, who was born and bred in Sundorne in Shrewsbury and now lives in Bomere Heath, is competing in this year’s Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship in a BMW E36 Compact and has been scoring good class results despite limited experience at this level.

Now he will have the chance to compete in his home county and says that the Shrewsbury-based Hills Ford Stages on September 19-20 is great news.

Gaz has been rallying for nearly 10 years and started in road rallies. But last year, he built up the BMW he is now using and moved to special stage rallying. This year, he has stepped up another level to compete in the UK’s premier BTRDA sealed surface series and has already recorded some top four class finishes.

Price is able to compete thanks to the support of CR M-Tech Motorsport, EDJ Agri Limited and AB Bodyworks, which are all Shropshire-based businesses, as well as E and M Motor Factors in Aberystwyth who support his co-driver Liam Evans.

So far this season, Price has competed in Yorkshire, on the Isle of Man, in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but now comes his home rally which is based just five miles from his home.

“It’s brilliant being in your home area,” said Gaz.

“It’s good to have family and friends there as well to enjoy it as much as we will and see what we’re doing.

“The money that the rally will bring into the area is brilliant for Shrewsbury and Shropshire.

“It’s not often we get a big event in our area, so it’s good news all round. We’ve got a few friends coming along to have a look and obviously our sponsors will enjoy coming to see us in action.”
